Activities of Information & Cultural Affairs Department

The Department

It has been the endeavour of the Information & Cultural Department to make people aware of various day to day problems surrounding them, viz. health hazards, environmental problems etc. With the introduction of participatory democracy in rural West Bengal the additional responsibility of motivating people to take their rightful place in the process of socio-economic development has also devolved on this Department. Along with discharging these responsibilities the I & C A Department is also responsible for keeping people abreast of the plans and programmes of the Government and for collection of news and views of the people and dissemination thereof as well as for promoting the cultural activities of the people.

The Department of I.&C.A. is basically divided into four Directorates which are :

a) Information Directorate
b) Culture Directorate
c) Film Directorate
d) Archaeology Directorate

Apart from these, there are Autonomous Bodies & Public Undertakings, which also work hand in hand in order to elevate the level of mass consciousness towards a positive stance of social understanding.
