The Mass Media Centre under the aegis of the Information Directorate of I.&C.A. Department is created with the objective of, inter alia, (1) cultivation of mass communication as a pre-requisite for economic and social development, (2) setting up a media-related information bank, (3) exploring avenues for the uplift of the rural oriented small newspapers, (4) establishing links with alike organisations of outside states, (5) organising studies, seminars, discussions etc. on relevant media issues. The Centre's organ 'Ganamadhyam' is being regularly published. The Centre has also been organising annual Harish Mukherjee Memorial Lecture, celebration of the National Press Day on 16th November and professional training of Rural Journalists of West Bengal.
