Culture mirrors entity
and identity of an individual as well as society and the nation. The
epithet ‘Unity in diversity’ finds best expression perhaps in the
sphere of India’s cultural front which is always secular and cosmopolitan
in nature. As far as West Bengal is concerned, the State can very
rightly take pride in its highly rich heritage and tradition of art
and culture. The Government encourages people of all walks of life
from both the urban and rural areas to develop their respective art
and culture. It even provides infrastructure facilities and monetary
grants as well as assistance to the deserving individuals, groups
and organisations. The cultural policy of the Government is always
people oriented and as such it attaches much importance to the uplift
and development of the folk art and culture. Festivals, workshop,
seminars etc. are arranged off and on in Kolkata and all other districts
for giving a boost to the artistes and workers in this particular
front. For extending infrastructure facilities to all kinds of performing
arts the Government has built six auditoriums in Kolkata and one at
Siliguri & 34 others in different districts of West Bengal. With
a view to the dissemination of arts and culture in an extensive manner
various Academies like State Music Academy, Natya (Drama) Academy,
Rajya Lok Sanskriti Parshad, Charukala Parshad, Paschimbanga Jatra
Academy are established and vested with the power and responsibility
of discharging their duties in their respective fields of performance. |
