The Film Directorate as a whole frames rules and issues guidelines on films
and video shows in exercise of the powers under relevant provisions of the
Cinematography Act 1952. It performs various activities through other sections,
which are:
Nandan - West Bengal Film Centre.
Film vault and film production unit: Located at Radha Film Studio
Premises - produces mainly documentary films - arranges screening
through audio-visual units of the Department up to the Panchayet
level of the State - preserves the negatives and the positives at
the vault.
Technicians' Studio at Tollygunge: Four studio floors - two floors at
Technicians' Studio No. I at Baburam Ghosh Road and two floors at
Technicians' Studio No. II at Prince Anwar Shah Road - undergoing
modernisation - construction of a new floor at Technicians' Studio-I
is under progress.
West Bengal Film Development Corporation: Does post production work
of shooting of films at its colour laboratory, Rupayan at Salt Lake
- runs two commercial cinema houses - Chaplin at Central Kolkata and
Ahindra Mancha at Chetla - nodal agency of Kolkata Film Festival -
Nodal agency for the implementation of an Indo-Italian Project,
Roopkala Kendro, an Audio-visual Training cum Production Centre -
Distributor of feature films produced by the State Government.
Office of the Film Publicity Materials: Located at Radha Film Studio
premises - Censors cinema publicity materials viz. stills and posters
- keeps watch on violations.
